Ruth, John, children, and friends

Ruth and John lived in a white house on a hill overlooking Monterey Bay, surrounded by a pine forest. I remember their garden full of flowers and English peas you could eat right from the vine. I would go out the back gate and sit on a fallen tree in the forest, pretending I was in the real wilderness (that was as close as I could get being from Chicago).

They raised three children in this house — Junia, John, and Robert/Bob.

Other fun memories:

They went to Europe in 1958, sailing from Montreal on the Corinithia. This is their trip itinerary.

And here is Ruth’s journal from that trip. (The scan wasn’t perfect, so a few rescanned pages are at the end.)

Here are some family Christmas cards.
